Extra

It’s garbage day and I’m sending away the extra. Excess can be debilitating. We hold on to too many things. 

Because of the corona virus, I told my guests to leave anything they touch out, so that I can sterilize it. Five ladies stayed in my house for three nights, and it looked like a frat party when I got home. They used every blanket, every towel, they even used and stained the cloth napkins. 

My washing machine was overflowing and there were blankets everywhere. The heat was left on-73° and they left a bottle of really bad sparkling wine in the fridge. They overflowed the coffee grounds in the coffee maker. The outside garbage can was full.

It was a gross example of excess. And they left without thanking me. 

I want to be the guest who uses one towel and  remembers to turn the heat off. 

All of this extra is disgusting. Several times in my life, I’ve purged most of my belongings. My last ltr was with a man who had serious OCD and couldn’t handle clutter. Over the three years we were together, we sold most of my stuff and gave away the rest, and I was okay with it. I even paid $400 to a junk hauler because it was important to him to clean out the basement. 

This month I’m purging again. I’m selling my extra clothes and shoes, I’m determined to clean out my storage shed. Goodbye extra! 

But I’m not stopping there. I had extra friends, extra food, extra things I didn’t need to be putting into my body. Goodbye extra. I just want to have what I need, have what my kids need, and have enough money to get what I don’t have when I need it. 

I know Marie Kondo beat me to it with the clutter thing, but everything in its time. A simple life has always been my plan, I just want a clean home and a happy family. I want to wake up every morning, enjoy my tea, make breakfast for the kids, walk the dog, do some work, and maybe create something. 

So I’m selling my clothes on Poshmark, listing my crap on Facebook marketplace, donating the rest. I’m substance free and I’m eating pretty clean. My kids are happy, my dog is happy, and I’m happy. It’s garbage day, and I’m sending away the extra, there’s a reason it’s called extra. We don’t actually need it.
